Umbraco CMS Migration and Website Redesign Creates Intuitive and Accessible Online Experience for Legal Services
Legal Resources is a national leader in the legal benefits industry and has been providing their members with high-quality, comprehensive legal plans and services for over 30 years. They currently serve over 1,200 organizations throughout the country, including government municipalities, educational institutions, medical institutions, and more, providing unmatched legal service coverage through a vast network of elite law firms with superior customer service.
Overview
The Legal Resources team reached out to Marathon Consulting seeking expertise in a migration and redesign project for their website. The team wished to move their website from WordPress to the Umbraco CMS platform to take advantage of additional content management features and customization capabilities, as well as the scalability needed for their organization's online presence.
Challenge
Legal Resources’ existing website had several limitations and was not meeting the needs of the company or their customers, resulting in a poor online experience and missed opportunities. One major issue was that the website homepage failed to effectively communicate the company’s identity and the range of services they offer. Additionally, the website's overall user experience was suboptimal and had an unintuitive navigation that made it challenging for visitors to find information they needed. The online enrollment process for coverage was complicated and confusing for users to complete. There was also a lack of content that hindered Legal Resources from establishing credibility and trust with its audience. The outdated design and lack of visual elements contributed to an unprofessional appearance as well, which failed to make a positive impact with site visitors.
The primary goals for this project were to create a more intuitive user journey for all audiences, modernize the design to reflect their brand and convey information clearly, and enhance the website’s overall effectiveness in engaging users.
Solution
Marathon's UX team conducted a comprehensive user experience audit as the first step of the project, providing an analysis of the current website’s usability and information architecture. This audit uncovered critical insights into how users were interacting with the site and highlighted problematic areas that needed to be addressed. Leveraging these findings, Marathon’s UX designers crafted detailed wireframes of all the various website pages, with layouts that prioritized important content and features to support Legal Resources' website goals.
Our team designed high-fidelity visual mockups illustrating the final polished look of the website UI, including updated features, new components, and styles that aligned with the Legal Resources brand. The designs incorporated contemporary elements such as dynamic imagery and subtle animations to create a visually appealing and interactive experience. With the design blueprint in place, the development phase of the project commenced with Marathon’s talented Umbraco developers meticulously transforming the mockups into a fully functional website on the Umbraco platform.
Throughout the development phase, we reviewed the website through our internal quality assurance testing processes, ensuring that all components and features functioned as expected and met current WCAG accessibility standards.

Our design and development work provided Legal Resources and their customers with an intuitive, modernized, and robust website built in Umbraco. The new site gave administrators flexibility in creating and managing their content, optimized performance and speed, improved usability, and provided a scalable CMS that can grow with their business as their needs and goals evolve.
