My internship at Marathon far exceeded my expectations. From the start, we were treated as true members of the team and given the freedom to contribute in meaningful ways across multiple projects. I was especially impressed by the level of trust and responsibility we were given. While we had regular check-ins to ensure we had support and direction, we were ultimately empowered to take ownership of our work and drive it forward.
Since becoming a full-time employee, I’ve continued to have the same positive experience I had as an intern, contributing to impactful projects while consistently growing my skills.
What You'll Do
Our internship program typically spans 8-10 weeks during the summer, depending on your schedule. While you’re here, you’ll be paid to work on challenging real-world projects for our clients and contribute to meaningful solutions that make a tangible impact. You’ll work alongside a supportive team that values collaboration, encourages curiosity, and is committed to helping you learn and grow throughout the experience.
Throughout your internship, you will:

- Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and reviews
- Receive ongoing feedback and mentorship

We are passionate about investing in emerging talent and helping students launch successful careers here in our region. Our internship program is intentionally designed to support long-term professional growth, with many internships serving as a pathway to future full-time opportunities with our team.
As a result, we place a strong emphasis on candidates who are interested in living and working in Virginia after graduation and building their careers alongside us.
Our Internship Timeline and Process
Planning for our summer interns begins long before summer arrives!
Each fall, our team attends career fairs at colleges and universities throughout the region to connect with students, discuss opportunities, and review resumes. We are typically looking for students pursuing a Computer Science or related degree who have completed at least two years of college coursework and are ready to gain practical, hands-on experience in a professional environment.
Internship opportunities may include exposure to areas such as:
- Application Development (Mobile / .NET Applications / Security / Cloud Technologies)
- Database Development (SQL Server / EF / ETL / Data Pipelines)
- Web Development (JavaScript / HTML / CSS)
- Business Analysis
- Project Management
- Quality Assurance
- Client Training and Support
During the fall recruiting season, we also begin scheduling and conducting interviews with the goal of extending offers and finalizing our intern class by the end of the calendar year.
After the new year, our focus shifts to preparing meaningful internal and client projects for the summer internship program. Throughout the spring, we work to ensure interns have everything they need for a successful experience — including workspaces, equipment, software access, and onboarding preparation.
Our summer internship program typically begins shortly after Memorial Day, with interns joining us through early August. While we’d happily keep our interns even longer, we understand many are preparing to return to school for the fall semester.
As the program concludes, each intern participates in a formal review process with members of our team. During this conversation, we provide individualized feedback, discuss strengths and areas for growth, and share insight into the qualities and professional skills we value most in successful consultants. Our goal is for every intern to leave with not only hands-on experience, but also valuable guidance they can carry forward into their careers.
